Understanding that ABDR is not out to dictate the standards by which bay pen owners conduct their baying's, we recognize the importance of having, at the least, a set of guidelines that must be followed for any bay to be sanctioned by ABDR. this is to insure that any competitor attending an ABDR sanctioned baying knows going in, how the bay will be conducted. While it would be impossible to cover all of the details involved, a general set of standards is herein set forth. Remember, our main goal is fairness to all in as much as is possible - LET THE DOG AND THE HOG DECIDE! A $2.00 per entry administrative fee is required to hold an ABDR sanctioned bay. This fee is necessary to insure and maintain proper record keeping. The fee is to be made payable to ABDR, L.L.C. All points will be posted on the web page for each year and the total accumulative to date earnings (points) will be posted separately for each dog. Bay Producer: The person conducting or holding the bay.) The bay producer will be allowed to participate in the event provided the event is held at a neutral pen unavailable for practicing 30 days prior to the event. Private Bay Pens: While ABDR prefers that independent covered arenas be used to produce an ABDR sanctioned baying, we recognize that their availability does not make this possible in all geographical locations - thus we are going to allow, for the sake of convenience and fairness to all concerned, the following venue for the use of private bay pens in special circumstances. This shall not be construed to be an automatic given as we still prefer the use of covered independent arenas, but under the following guidelines the private pen shall be considered for use in holding an ABDR sanctioned baying.
Judges: (All judges must be ABDR approved.) No judge, his agent or representative can exhibit any dog in a class he is judging. He can enter a class he is not judging even though he may be judging other classes at a particular bay. Example - A judge judging the two dog bay may enter and show his dog(s) in the one dog class if he is not judging the one dog. Pen Workers: No chute worker, his agent or representative, involved in sorting the run order of the hogs, can exhibit any dog in a class he is serving as chute worker. Those pen workers helping in the arena or pen area, in which the actual baying takes place may bay their dogs if they so desire. Clerical Personnel: Clerical personnel may enter their dog(s) in any class as they are in no way associated with the actual production or running of the class itself. Certified Judge: All judges must be ABDR certified. To be approved, they must have attended 2 judging clinics initially and thereafter 1 clinic each year. Following attendance of at least 1 clinic a person must serve as judge at an ABDR approved event on a conditional basis and pass scrutiny of his judging abilities at that approved event. Remember our goal is Qualified Certified judges. A goal not to be taken lightly. Head Judge: The head judge at an ABDR event is to be a certified ABDR judge. The head judge is to have complete control of Everything that happens in the arena. It is his responsibility to see that all is done fairly and each dog treated the same as much as is possible. In the event a discrepancy occurs the head judge is to stop the event at that point in time and make the proper adjustments to insure that everything proceeds smoothly and fairly. Any judge who questions the progression of the bay for any reason is to call “time out” at that point and meet with the head judge and other judges to discuss the problem to be corrected. If the problem is real, it is to be corrected at that point by the head judge. All disputes and/or questions about events taking place in the arena during the bay are to be addressed by the head judge. Scoring: Each dog entering the arena comes in with a perfect score of ten (10). Mistakes shall be deducted on the basis of 1/0 point per mistake as outlined in the rules. No judges score shall be changed once that score has been turned in to the scorer's table. However, clerical errors in addition and/or subtraction when totaling the scores shall be changed, to match the judges score. All contestants shall be given the score the judges gave in all cases! Nothing More - Nothing Less! Entry Fees: ABDR sanctioned baying's, in an effort to be consistent and fair shall have entry fees that allow a competitor to earn points toward championship degrees. Under ABDR guidelines, no entry fee for any one event shall be less than $40.00 nor more than $100.00. The only exceptions to this standard shall be the Puppy Futurity and the World Championships. There shall be provisions, through appeal to the advisory board, to have events with more or less entry fees under special conditions. Appeal to alter the fees is to be made in a written request to ABDR, P.O. Box 1687, Dubach, LA 71235 at least 60 days prior to the event in question. Payout of entry fees in ABDR sanctioned events shall be at least 70%. An event producer may elect to pay out more than 70%, but in no instance shall be less than 70% paid out to ABDR registered Dogs. To do so will forfeit the right to have ABDR sanctioned events in the future. First, second, and third places shall be paid out in each class at ABDR sanctioned baying's. At this time we will allow places to be split in the even t if time or condition of hogs are an issue after at least two bay offs have been run. Bay Offs: In the event of a bay-off - the first run will be 4 minutes, the second and third runs will be two minutes on eliminator hogs if available. There must be more than one hog available for chute runs. We will not go over minutes in a bay-off. |
CLASSES&events Novice: Open to any dog (registered or non registered) never having won more than 99 points at an ABDR sanctioned bay. This class may be ran as a one dog or two dog in the same event but each dog will be scored separately. If there is a bay off the dog must be run individually. Once a dog wins 100 points in this category the dog will then be moved to the Amateur class and must be an ABDR registered dog. A dog that is considered a Novice dog may enter any of the other classes if the dog is registered ABDR. First Place Points=100 Amateur One Dog Bay: Open to any dog which has not obtained 1001 points at an ABDR sanctioned bay. No Pro-dog will be eligible to enter an amateur event. All amateur dogs must be ABDR registered in order to compete at an ABDR sanctioned bay. First Place Points=800 Amateur Two Dog Bay: Any age pair may run in this event two young dogs, two old dogs, or old and young pair. Both dogs have to be considered amateur dogs or Novice Dogs but both must be registered ABDR. No pro dog will be eligible to enter an amateur event. First Place Points=800 (400 per dog) Pro One Dog Bay: A Pro Dog is any dog which has earned 1001 points at an ABDR sanctioned bay. The judges scores for the dog in the one dog class shall apply toward high point and/or best of best bay event. Pro Two Dog Bay: The judges score for each individual in the two dog bay class shall apply individually to each dog toward the high point and/or best of best event. Should the occasion arise that one of the two dogs in their run in the two dog class “catch out” or otherwise be disqualified, the baying will be stopped, the disqualified dog removed, and the other dog in that run be allowed to finish his/her bay. The score the dog receives at that point from the judges shall apply toward the high point from the judges shall apply toward the high point and/or best of best bay. Any dog eligible for the two dog bay may be entered no more than two times so long as he/she is not matched with the same dog for both runs. In the event a dog entered in the two dog bay is injured prior to the bay, so that it would be injurious to that dog's health, a request may be made to substitute another dog in its place in the two dog bay to the head judge. If upon investigation, the head judge decides which run shall be the high point eligibility run, at the time he enters his dog in the two dog bay. Once the bay class has begun, this can not be changed! High Point Bay or Best of Best: This event will be open to any ABDR registered dog with qualified entrees. Qualified entrees will be determined by the Bay Pen Owner (following the guidelines for this event) and must be decided upon by the publishing of the ABDR sanctioned field trial. Guidelines for this event are as follows: The event may or may not be a paid entry (depending on added money or the discretion of the Bay pen owner). The event may be the top perfect scores from the combined events or the top 10 or 15 scores from the combined events (Pro-One Dog, Pro-Two Dog). ABDR will only recognize one high point winner at each baying. High Point Points=800 Other Events: Other Events may be run at an ABDR sanctioned bay. All other events will take place after the pro events are run for the day scheduled.
